Betty Young Ross
Betty Young-Ross is a full time artist living in Huntsville, Alabama, with her husband, and a menagerie of cats and dogs. Betty received a BA from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, with a speciality in sculpture and two semesters of honors work in the same field. While in school, she concentrated on plastics sculpture, then she turned to a more natural variety of media such as fibers, clay, wood, paper, and found objects. Betty's sculpture has been shown throughout the south and in Washington D.C. Presently Betty is developing a line of sculptures using paperclay. Paperclay, as the name indicates, has paper in it, which has great constructive properties, once fired, the paper burns, which makes each piece lighter in weight. Betty finishes the pieces with engobes, stains, and glazes. All are medium and high fire. They are waterproof and food safe.
